During the 1999 British Open Championship who could ever forget the amazing last hole drama with Jean Van De Welde as he disastrously put his ball in the Barry Burn. Paul Lawrie went on to win the Championship.

The Open Golf Championship 2007 was no less dramatic and of course was won by Padraig Harrington who also won the Irish Open 2007. Poppy House played host to Padraig and his family during the Open and he kindly left this comment in the visitors book – "Thanks, a very warm home for a cold week"
